What do Chiropodists or Podiatrists do?

Chiropody now referred to also as Podiatry, is the branch of medicine that deals with problems related to the feet. Proper functioning of the feet is essential for the overall functioning of the body in standing walking, running and almost all forms of activity.

As a consequence of accident, over activity, faulty posture or footwear then the foot can become painful or develop callouses, corns or bunions. Problems can also develop with nail growth leading to in-growing toenails.

Podiatrists are trained to evaluate the functioning of the foot, to carry out a diagnosis, including the use of GaitScan, which can establish whether the use of prescription Orthotics may be appropriate. These devices are used to help the foot to regain its proper mode of functioning and to relieve pain not only in the feet but also in the knees, hips, low back, upper back, neck and even headaches.
